The latest Inrix Scorecard reveals a startling fact: Chicagoans spent a whopping 112 hours stuck in traffic last year, translating to over $2,000 in lost time costs per driver.
What's more surprising is Chicago's rise to the top. In previous rankings, New York City was the undisputed leader in traffic congestion. But this year, Chicago has surpassed the Big Apple, with drivers losing an additional 10 hours in traffic compared to the previous year.
And it doesn't end there. Chicago's highways are a significant part of the problem. The Stevenson Expressway, a notorious traffic hotspot, ranks as the fifth-most congested highway in the U.S., costing drivers 79 hours annually. But here's where it gets controversial—two sections of the Kennedy Expressway and the Eisenhower Expressway also make the top 10 most congested highways, according to Inrix.
